The State Commission For Protection Of Child Rights (S.C.P.C.R.) in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Officer (D.S.W.O.) and District Child Protection Unit (D.C.P.U.) Tura , organized a One Day District Level Awareness Campaign on Child Rights on May 6, 2016 S.M.E.L.C. Building Tura.
The Chief Guest of the Programme was Mr. Winnerson D. Sangma, parliament Secretary in Charge, Home etc.
The Resource persons for the day Mrs. M. Kharkongor Chairperson, State Commission For Protection Of Child Rights (S.C.P.C.R.), highlighted the salient features of the on the POCSO Act and Guidelines for police, Doctor and magistrate; Mr. Burman, Retd. Joint Director of Education , presented a appear on the R.T.E. Act; 2009; FR. Junurius S. Sangma, principal , Don-bosco School Tura, also presented on the topic R.T.E. and its Juvenile Justice Act.
Awareness programme on Children and Women’s Rights was organized by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Meghalaya and State Resource Centre for women in collaboration with the social welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya and Round Table India.
This Programme was initiated to spread awareness in School and Colleges and 28 School and Colleges in East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya had the opportunity to interact with the Resource persons on various topics such as issues relating to sexual health, Child Trafficking , substance abuse, early marriage and its ill effects, violence against women and girl child, Life skills, and pros and cons of mobile technology and other gadgets.
These lectures, interactive sessions, Role - play and visual Aids were facilitated by Ms. M. Kharkongor, Chairperson, S.C.P.C.R. and Ms. I. Warjri, Mission Director, State Resource Centre for women.
In these 28 schools and colleges spread across the East Khasi Hills District, 9000+ student were adressed and enlightened on the vital issue concerning their lives as their relationship with society.
Awareness Programme on Juvenile Justice Act, 2000, the protection of sexual offence Act, 2012 and the Domestic violence Act, 2005 in collaboration with the meghalaya state commission for women and the District Administration, South West Khasi Hills, Mawkyrwat.
One - Day State Level workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 and the R.T.E. Act, 2009 was organized by the State Commission in collaboration with the National Commission for protection of child rights, New Delhi where all the concerned Departments and N.G.Os participated. The programme was held at the Yogana Bhavan Meghalaya Secretariat, Shillong.
